A review of plastics processing in the GCC

A review of plastics processing in the GCC

Date of publication: Published March 2013

Overview:
This report is the 2nd edition of AMI Consulting’s study of “Plastics Processing in the GCC”.  The previous study was published in 2009.

This new edition reports the dramatic increase in the sector’s size and sophistication, and reviews the many substantial changes in the GCC thermoplastics processing sector.  The study follows the market and geographical segmentation previously used but investigates in more detail the broader range of strategic imperatives and regional initiatives impacting the high growth GCC plastics processing sector.

In a sector where authoritative data is rarely publicly available, this report will be the seminal study on the GCC plastics processing. It presents an authoritative view of the complex and fast-moving world of GCC plastics processing - this is the first time that this has been achieved with such clarity, depth and insight.

Polymer scope:
The polymers reviewed in this report are polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinylchloride (PVC) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). These polymers account for over 90% of the thermoplastics processed in the GCC.

Market scope:
The primary conversion of plastics (defined as the conversion of granules and/or powders), but also thermoforming and stretch blow moulding which link closely with primary conversion processes. Other secondary conversion steps, such as lamination, are discussed where relevant. Compounding is included as an important primary process and as compounds feed other primary processes, care is taken not to double count volumes.

Processes reviewed:
Blow moulding, injection moulding, sheet extrusion/thermoforming, PE and PP film extrusion, compounding and masterbatch, wire and cable extrusion, pipe, profile, tube and hose extrusion, textile extrusion, foam, rotational moulding.

The geographical scope of this report is the member states of the GCC (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain).

Subscribers will receive two printed copies and one PDF copy of the report as a single user license.
