AMI, Bristol, 21/11/23 We are pleased to announce the release of the Single Ply Roofing Membranes - Europe 2023 report. The 7th edition of this comprehensive report, completed by Consultant Nick Palmer, who specialises in energy & infrastructure, builds on AMI's extensive industry knowledge and examines the post-pandemic market for synthetic roofing membranes. It takes into account the backdrop of high energy prices and the general economic situation in Europe.

In 2020 and 2021, there were material shortages and logistic issues, resulting in a significant catch-up in 2022. It was a 'bumper' year with a substantial increase in activity. Volumes of waterproof materials went up by 6.9%, and synthetic single ply increased by 7.4% compared to 2020 levels. This increase was significant, considering it had been 2-3% in previous years. However, the availability dynamics caused pressures and a 'chaotic feel' to 2022.

The economic situation in Europe has led to a subsiding of the highs experienced in 2022. However, underlying factors such as a shift towards digitization, online shopping, and more flexible working will lead to changes in building uses. Some expected outcomes include increasing demand for logistics buildings, pressure to build more single-family houses, and static or reduced demand for shops, shopping centres, offices, and small apartments.

These changes occur against a backdrop of increasing sustainability and circularity awareness. Over the longer term, demand for single ply roofing is expected to grow and return to normal growth patterns in all regions.

Key highlights of the report:
