"While, at times, news channels appear to be flooded with challenging news for the recycling industry it was encouraging to hear about so many initiatives, projects, and innovations and to experience so much commitment and enthusiasm from event participants.

If I had to summarize the call-outs from the event in three points they would be

• Packaging design for recycling is a pre-requisite for successful reprocessing of materials in later stages of the value chain.
• Infrastructure investments to increase collection rates and sorting capacity, including secondary sorting, are crucial to increase recycling rates.
  
• However, all efforts come to nothing if there are no end markets to take the recycled materials - legislation can help to drive demand for recyclates, and support and engagement from brand owners is vital to increase uptake."
