It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single municipality in possession of a waste management system, must be in want of proper feedstock for plastics recycling.

“My dear Mr. Bennet,” said his lady to him one day, “have you heard that the county council has finally separated post-consumer plastics by resin identification code?”

Mr. Bennet replied that he had not.

“But it is so,” she insisted. “They say the MRF has begun sorting PP and PS with such precision, it may soon rival even the methods of Belgium or Germany!”

Mr. Bennet, who had never shown much partiality for polymers, responded with measured enthusiasm. “You astonish me, Mrs. Bennet. Perhaps next you will suggest that low-value films and multi-layer packaging are also to be redeemed.”

“But indeed they are!” cried Mrs. Bennet. “I have it on good authority that enzymatic depolymerization has been trialled at Lucas Lodge.” Mr. Bennet sighed. “Is nothing sacred?”
