Tayanç Top, Deputy General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Polikon Plastik Film

OR: Tayanç, you began your career as a quality control engineer before working at two of Turkey’s leading BOPP players. How do you see your experience supporting you in your current role as Deputy General Manager at Polikon Plastik Film?

TT: I strongly believe that a comprehensive approach is a key element in succeeding in any industry. Plastics is a huge market with constantly increasing demand. The demand is not just product itself. It is mostly ideas that require experience, vision, contribution and collaboration. Both quality and sales are two great and different working areas. Each requires a different set of skills and each also helps develop a different professional perspective. I am glad that I had the opportunity to work in both departments at some of Turkey’s leading BOPP players. Now it is time to apply those skills at Polikon Plastik Film together with our highly experienced BOPP team and the strong vision of our General Manager, Ender Özmergen.

OR: For those who are not yet familiar with Polikon, please could you provide a brief overview of the company and its journey so far?

TT: Polikon Plastik Film is the youngest and newest BOPP producer in Turkey with the latest Brückner Technology and the most experienced team. Polikon Plastik Film is dedicated to delivering the highest quality of products whose core business is defined as label products like WAL, IML and PSL (Facestock). Our objective is not simply to add capacity to the market, but to bring a more agile, technically focused and solution-oriented approach to speciality BOPP production.

OR: Polikon may be a new player entering the market for the first time, but its leadership team is highly experienced. With this in mind, what challenges do you anticipate for your first year of operation?

TT: The market itself is already highly competitive and dynamic, so naturally there will be many operational and commercial challenges ahead. However, I believe our biggest challenge will be matching our own ambitions and potential. We have a highly experienced team, strong technical infrastructure and crystal-clear long-term vision. In that sense, we see our own standards, speed and growth targets as the main benchmark we must continuously exceed.

OR: What is your intended USP (unique selling proposition)?

TT: Our main USP is our ability to combine technical specialisation with commercial agility. Thanks to our organisational structure, we are able to make decisions quickly, respond rapidly to market requirements and develop highly specialised film solutions for demanding applications. We believe flexibility, speed and technical know-how together create a strong competitive advantage in the modern BOPP industry.

OR: Polikon’s first BOPP line was recently commissioned at the company’s site in Izmir. Can you tell us a bit about the project and the challenges you faced?

TT: This is the first BOPP production line under the Polikon Plastik Film brand, but clearly not the last one. From the very beginning, the line was designed with a highly specialised philosophy rather than a commodity production approach. Its configuration is tailor-made for our strategic focus areas, especially high-performance label applications such as IML and pressure-sensitive films. Every greenfield investment brings operational and technical challenges during commissioning. However, thanks to the experience of both our team and Brückner, the startup process progressed in a highly efficient and controlled manner. We believe this line represents not only a new capacity investment, but also a strong technological statement for the market.
