Vartega is set to make a significant impact at the Compounding World Expo, taking place in Cleveland, Ohio, from November 12-13, 2025. Douglas Mandic explains what truly sets Vartega apart: "We recycle carbon fiber at scale into a format designed for ease of use in thermoplastic compounding, maintaining 100% of the mechanical properties of virgin carbon fiber at up to half the cost and 99% less CO2 emissions." This commitment to high performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability is at the core of their operations.

What’s new: Expanded product offerings

As Vartega has continued to scale its manufacturing operations, it now offers three categories of products: ‘good’ (standard modulus fiber), ‘better’ (high strength fiber), and ‘best’ (intermediate modulus fiber), with three different sizing options also spanning the range from affordability to high performance.

The next big thing: Expanding chemical recycling capabilities

Vartega is continuously pushing the boundaries of what's possible in carbon fiber recycling. Mandic offers a sneak peek into their next big advancements: "We're scaling up our chemical recycling (solvolysis) processes to recover carbon fiber (and epoxy) from uncured prepreg fabric scrap from the aerospace industry." But they're not stopping there; Vartega is also "expanding this work into recyclable thermoset resin systems to be able to recycle post-consumer thermoset composites." These innovations promise to unlock even greater potential for sustainable materials across various industries.

Tackling industry challenges: Navigating demand uncertainty

The current global landscape presents unique challenges, and for Vartega, one of the biggest is "uncertainty in demand given disruptions in the global macropolitical landscape." Mandic elaborates on their strategy to overcome this: "We're responding by growing our customer base and expanding into other vertical markets." This proactive approach ensures resilience and continued growth for the company.

The future is Composite: A 10-year outlook

Looking a decade ahead, Mandic has a clear vision for the industry's evolution: "High performing thermoplastic composites will continue to grow their footprint in automotive, white goods, industrial products, and consumer products, displacing metal components and assemblies." This trend signals a significant shift towards lighter, more efficient, and sustainable materials. Businesses should prepare by embracing these advanced composite solutions to stay competitive and meet evolving market demands.
