Exhibitor Spotlight: General Polymers
21 October 2025
As the plastics industry continues to evolve, General Polymers Thermoplastic Materials is standing out by focusing on what matters most — meaningful partnerships, technical expertise, and practical solutions that drive real value for manufacturers. We caught up with Gregory Boston, who shared how General Polymers is reshaping the thermoplastic distribution landscape and what visitors can expect at Booth R2300 during the upcoming AMI Plastics World Expos North America.
A Focused, Value-Driven Approach
“At General Polymers, we provide a focused approach in thermoplastic distribution that centers on development activities for injection molders and custom profile extruders,” says Gregory. “Instead of chasing volume-driven business, we’re a value-driven, solution provider for compounded and engineering resins.”
That focus on solutions over scale has positioned General Polymers as a trusted partner for manufacturers looking to grow profitably — not just fill orders.
Expanding Capabilities with Color and Blending Services
One of the most exciting developments for General Polymers is the addition of color and mechanical blending equipment and services at its Rochester Hills facility. “It’s a way to expand commercial opportunities in Salt & Pepper (S&P) colorants with naturals — PP, TPO, engineered styrenics like ABS and PC/ABS, POM, and more — as well as mechanical blend formulations,” Gregory explains.
This expansion allows the company to outperform lead suppliers in interior trim materials, particularly in the “sweet spot” of 6,000 lbs. and smaller releases.
He also highlights a key customer benefit: “Salt & Pepper blends have major advantages over precolour resins — faster delivery, no inventory minimums, and reduced obsolescence risk. Unlike most precolour options, our S&P blends let customers order exactly what they need, when they need it, with no long lead times. By maintaining inventory in natural resin and color concentrate forms, we help customers stay flexible, efficient, and cost-effective.”
Tackling Industry Challenges Head-On
Gregory doesn’t shy away from calling out one of the industry’s biggest pain points — the decline in technical and commercial support from large distributors.
“Big box distribution networks are cutting back on technical support services,” he says. “They’ve lost focus. Their teams are spread thin across too many product lines, which leads to order-taking instead of development sales.”
In contrast, General Polymers is taking the opposite approach: “We’re committed to being a value-driven, solution provider that helps the manufacturing industry grow profitably. We align our support directly with our customers’ strategies and goals — not just their purchase orders.”
Looking Ahead: Innovation and Human Connection
When asked about the next decade, Gregory offers a refreshingly human perspective: “I know the ‘experts’ say everything will go online and that face-to-face interaction will fade. I completely disagree. Online tools, robotics, and AI are important, but the human-to-human element will remain just as vital in 10 years as it was 30 years ago.”
For General Polymers, the future lies in combining technology with people-first service. “We’re adding resources and commercial personnel as we grow geographically,” Gregory adds. “With reshoring and renewed manufacturing strength in North America, we want to be in a leadership position supporting that growth. Manufacturing is the lifeblood of any nation, and the U.S. remains the anchor of the world economy. We’re proud to help drive that forward.”
Excitement Ahead at Plastics World Expos
At this year’s show, General Polymers will be spotlighting its new color and blending capabilities — the same innovations that are helping them outperform competitors in interior trim applications.
Gregory is enthusiastic about what’s next: “These are exciting times for General Polymers. Between our new capabilities, our grassroots growth, and our expanding resin partnerships, we’re better positioned than ever to support our customers and their success.”
